Moving to Ireland for wife's job. Need advice on my job.

Post by jetshred » Sat Mar 21, 2015 2:10 pm

We are both US citizens with no Irish ancestry. So my wife's company wants her to transfer to Ireland for 2 years. She will have a critical skills permit and I understand that I will be granted a stamp 3 visa which would not allow me to work. I am a software developer for a small (4 person) business in the US dealing with only US clients. They would like for me to continue working for them remotely from Ireland. As all I do is write code, this would work out great for me. However, I am unable to figure out a legal way for me to work. I would not represent the company in Ireland so they would have no real Irish presence. All I would be doing is writing software by myself. Work permits seem to only be applicable for Irish businesses. I'm currently salaried, but could easily change to being a contract employee. Would being self-employed make this any easier? My wife's business is legally unable to help me and I'm not sure what resources are available to determine if I have any options. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
