EU Health Insurance Card and future Irish Naturalization

Post by tenxt15 » Fri Mar 27, 2015 2:26 pm

Hi,

I will be applying for a schengen visa in the Italian Embassy, one of the requirements is a Travel Insurance along with European Health Insurance Card.

I have heard in this forum that people that ask for Social Welfare or related things sometimes have a hard time when they apply for naturalization. I still don't know if I ever going to apply for naturalization but it might be a possibility in the future and wouldn't like to have issues because of this. Having an EU Health Insurance Card will affect my naturalization application when the time comes?

It won't have any impact.

The card is just a piece of plastic with you PPS number on it to prove that you you are covered by the Irish public health service in case of an emergency in another EU country (if you have an accident in Italy public hospitals will take care of you for free and cross charge the cost to the Irish HSE).

Getting the card doesn't entitle you for any more social welfare payments. It only costs Irish public money you use it to go to the hospital in another EU country - but getting emergency medical care after an accident won't be held against you.
