Italian Schengen Visa and European Health Card

Post by tenxt15 » Mon Mar 30, 2015 12:59 pm

I live am a NON-EU National residing in Ireland. I will be applying for a Schengen Visa from Italy. One of the requirements is and European Health Card along with a Travel Insurance. I have checked a few others Schengen Embassies and none of them required the EHCard. I personally don't need the health card, the only reason for me to get one is because the embassy is requiring it. Do you think that is a hard requirement, meaning, will I get the Visa denied if I don't provide one? Also do you think I can get one of those cards? from what I read it seem directed to people in a lower income bracket than mine.

If you are a non EU national, then I don't believe you would be eligible to get an EHIC card, which is what I believe you are referring to. See below...
http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcare ... -ehic.aspx
The main applicant for the EHIC must be ordinarily resident in the UK, and of British, other EU/EEA or Swiss nationality, to be eligible for the card.
Travel insurance which includes the level of cover required should be sufficient for a Schengen visa application.

Apologies, I missed your note about residing in Ireland. In that case the rules appear to be different and you should be able to apply for one.
