Eligibilities After Naturalisation

Post by chirac » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:49 pm

Hi all, thanks for this forum.

Could you share what new things we become eligible to apply for after naturalisation (but not before)?
UK Passport, and European EHIC card are things that come to mind. Anything else on UK, EU (or other) level that could be useful?

Thanks

Sure, a few things:

1. UK Passport.
2. Free movement across EU (for non-EU nationals).
3. Eligibility to vote (for non-Commonwealth citizens).
4. All the rights of a UK-born citizen regarding benefits/support (for non-EU nationals).
5. Full free NHS access without having to have a Comprehensive Insurance (for some EU-nationals) or showing of passport.
6. Visa-free short-term entry for more than 30 countries worldwide, including USA/Canada/UAE etc.

But the best and non-economic privilege I feel is to be part of a rich, welcoming British culture and heritage. Which gives me opportunity to better myself both economically and culturally. According to my boss I am an Anglophile  but I think I am happy with that.
Being British is a state of mind.

thank you, fellow Anglophile :)
I was just wondering if someone compiled a list of things that need to be updated, or that can we can apply for (as in: physically send an application form).
Do I have to inform the DVLA btw of a change in nationality?

You could, its optional. I updated information on all bank accounts insurances utility bills etc. but haven't done so on my DVLA record. Will do that soon.

Also, before naturalisation, if you were not a Commonwealth citizen then you must now register for vote as it not only gives you chance to have a say in national politics, but also affects your credit ratings. So if not already a Commonwealth citizen, I would register to vote immediately after being Naturalised.
