Meeting £18600 Category B case study interpretation

Post by sofia464 » Tue Jun 23, 2015 7:51 pm

I know I have met £18600 requirement, posting for a friend.

Can someone shed light on this example from above home-office doc, particularly on part (2).
Can anybody interpret this information regarding Category B Part (2)

5.3.11. Case studies – Category B: Less than 6 months with current employer or variable income – person residing in the UK

Category B
Example (a)
The applicant’s partner works in the UK. She started a new job 3 months prior to the date of application and her gross annual salary is £22,000. She meets part (1) of the calculation for Category B because she is in salaried employment at the date of application and her gross annual salary at the date of application meets the financial requirement.
In addition, she must have received in the 12 months prior to the application the level of income required to meet part (2) of the calculation for Category B. Before starting her new job, she worked for another company for 7 months during the last 12 months. Including her current and previous job, the total amount she has earned from employment in the last 12 months is £20,000.
The financial requirement is met under Category B because the applicant’s partner is currently in a job paying at least £18,600 a year and has earned more than £18,600 from employment in the last 12 months.

Does this mean she has earned £14,500 from previous job over 7 months during the last 12 months?
Does this mean they have added £5,500 from the current job over 3 months, then the total sum is £20,000?
Current Gross salary £22,000÷12=£1833 (Current monthly salary)
£1833×3=£5,500 earned income in 3 month prior to the application
Total earned income in last 12 months £20,000-5,500=£14,500 (the actual amount earned in 7 months during last 12 months from the previous job)

Did I work it out correctly?

Including her current and previous job, the total amount she has earned from employment in the last 12 months is £20,000.

I believe this sentence is not clear and confusing. If we add the earnings of 3 months of the current job, which is £5,500, and from previous job over 7 months during last 12 months, she had earning of £14,500. Now add the months, there are total 15 months, not 12 months as stated in the example and she has earned £20,000 in 15 months not 12 in months.

Sometimes, I have seen mistakes in textbooks. May be this is the case here.

So this means under Category B part (2) you are allowed to roll-over your earning beyond 12 months. If you have earned £14000 in the last 12 months over a period of 8 months. Then you are starting another job, which has annual salary of £23000, in the 13th month, so you can apply after the 15th month, when you have earned £5,750, which will be added to £14000 to give a total of £19750.
This is above £18600 so you have met part (2) as well.

This is quite interesting as people has been trying hard to interpret that case study.
