UK visa for a wife from second marriage after divorce.

Post by advice_please » Tue Aug 11, 2015 12:05 am

Hi

I would appreciate some advice please.

I am on UK ILR.
My ex wife lives in UK. She was on spouse visa when we separated two years ago. We have a child born in UK.
We were married officially in Uzbekistan. Our marriage was not registered in UK. Neither of us are UK nationals.

I obtained divorce from first wife in October 2014 through Uzbekistan Civil court and hold official divorce certificate. Her sister participated in court proceedings under her power of attorney.

My second wife currently lives in Uzbekistan, I am also national of that country.
We have a child too. We are not officially married there yet.

My questions are:

1. Now I want to officially register my second marriage to bring my wife to UK. Is my original divorce legally valid under UK law ? Just don't want to get caught out under UK poligamy rules.

2. Do I have to get divorced in UK as well?

I have searched preivious posts but most cases are from Pakistani people.
In Uzbekistan it is possbile to do islamic marriage, though it is not officially recognised there.

Thanks in advance for the advice :)

1. If the divorce is legal in Uzbekistan, it is legal in UK too.
2. No.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!
