Canadian in UK, applying for Italian citizenship

Post by mgiardino204 » Tue Aug 25, 2015 4:11 pm

Any Canadians out there (or possibly other nationalities) who have applied for Italian citizenship whilst residing in the UK as a sponsored migrant?

Slowly working my way through gathering all the documents but struggling to get a straightforward answer from the consulate on where and how to complete the legalisation / authentication and translation part of the process.

Any insights from any individuals who have gone through this process would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Not been through the process as I do not have any EU heritage.

But I thought I would flag up something that you may have missed. When you acquire Italian citizenship, your clock for working towards settlement will likely get reset. Leave to remain (including ILR) can only be given to non-EEA citizens. When you acquire Italian citizenship, you move over to the EEA Regulations, which require you to exercise five continuous years of treaty rights (which you can acquire only after becoming an Italian citizen) to get PR. EEA Regulations are far easier than UK Immigration Rules, but just thought I will point out this issue.
