Passport lost with valid UK visa

Hello all,

I have a quick question regarding the case when passport with a visa on it is lost. I invited my father to visit me in the UK. He got a visitor visa but got his passport stolen with his bag before he even had the chance to travel to the UK. The visa is for six months and it has been already 2 months since he got it. He intends to get the visa again on his passport, but this will take some time and by the time the issue is sorted, there would not be much time left in the visa. My question is, is it possible to requests a new visa with different date of issue without going through the application again?
