Immigration Health Surcharge Refund

Post by alphaomega » Sun Nov 01, 2015 11:18 pm

Hi,

Apologies if this has already been addressed in another thread - I couldn't find an answer for my situation in the forums.

My Mauritian wife and I (British) married in London on 3rd September 2015. My wife arrived in the UK from Mauritius a couple of months prior to our wedding as my fiancée on a 6 month 'family of settled person' visa, which she applied for through a premium teleperformance centre in Mauritius, and for which we had to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for three years of cover + some exchange fees in ZAR as the application was processed in South Africa, totalling £623.

Over the summer we prepared another application for further leave to remain under the 5 year route which we successfully submitted at the premium service centre in London 4th September 2015. We had to make another online IHS payment of £500 which it was explained would be refunded at a later date. We brought this up at the service centre as the UKVI website instructed to do and the exact response we got was: “I don’t know nothing about that”.

We have tried calling all the helplines but can’t get through to a human. There is no useful information on the UKVI website (https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigrati ... on/refunds) about how to go about requesting a refund, all it says is
If you paid the healthcare surcharge twice
If you paid the healthcare surcharge from inside the UK, request a refund using the payment service you used to make your first payment.

If you’re going to a premium service centre, tell UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) when you’re at your appointment.

If you paid the healthcare surcharge from outside the UK, you’ll get a refund for your first payment when your visa application is reviewed.

Clearly none of these accurately describes our situation or explains what to do next. Does anyone know how to get our refund? Which IHS payment is the easiest to refund? My wife registered with her GP and received healthcare using her first IHS number over the summer - will this be a problem?

Many thanks in advance for any help!
