Lost US passport containing Tier 2 visa - travel/re-entry?

Post by tpaul » Thu Nov 12, 2015 7:50 pm

Hi all,

I am an American citizen who's been living in the UK for two years on a tier 2 visa. Unfortunately I recently lost my passport (within the UK) containing the visa. I have travel to the US coming up soon (....next week!) that is quite important. I already have an appointment scheduled with the US embassy in London for an emergency passport, but the visa is the bigger concern for re-entry.

I understand I need to complete a TOC form but the minimum completion time to receive new documents is 7-10 business days, and only if I can schedule a premium appointment in the time (there don't appear to be any open slots available and it's a staggering £600).

Does anyone have experience trying to re-enter the UK on a US emergency passport? I have photocopies of the old passport and visa, and I should certainly still be in the system electronically. Would these be sufficient for re-entry? I'm happy to spend as much time as necessary in the airport if checks are needed, but is there any chance I'd be sent back to the US?

Thank you!!!
