Police registration certificate

This is for a mate of mine

He switched from t2 general to t2 dependent.

Always he has reported all change to the police within 7 days.
This includes new visa (t4,t1 post study and t2 general) and job/ home changes on time


When he received his new visa as dependent valid for less than 11 month, he did go to police station to register the new visa but they said to him this is not needed

They mentioned if it is not on the back of the brp then he doesn't need to report it

Went to another station and told the same

Called home office and they said if it doesn't say it is not needed

Now laywer is saying due to my nationality i should have reported it any ways. I did but police did not register it.

Would this cause any issues with renewal? He is writting a letter to home office explaining this
