My brother in law is a US Green Card Holder and wants to migrate to UK. Does he have any way he can settle himself here?

I am setting up a catering business, is there anything I can help him out?

His green card won't help him.

Anyway, why on earth would he want to abandon it to live in the U.K
A green card is so hard to get, and so easy to lose.

I have no idea why but I guess because of his family members. Most of us are here.

First, check & see if he qualifies for HSMP. We have a fairly extensive section of resources:

Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP)

This will become the Tier One program some time "early in 2008." The Home Office is being coy with the actual date for the changeover.

You might be able to hire him. A company can sponsor someone for a work permit.

UK Work Permit Guide

You will have meet minimum pay rate standards, and you will have to prove that the job offer cannot be fulfilled by a Briton or any other EU/EEA citizen. He will only be allowed to work under that contract for your company .. you can't bring him in part time and let him work for someone else.

If he finds another job, the new employer can offer a new contract and sponsor him to switch his work permit over to them.


Also, he could marry a British or an EU citizen and come over on a spouse visa.

He should probably get his U.S. citizenship first, before he thinks about moving, if he doesn't want to lose his green card.

If he gets into the U.K. on a temporary visa and doesn't qualify for indefinite leave, then if he hasn't got a U.S. passport he may well have nowhere to go other than where he originally came from.
