Children seeking dual nationality - by descent - info please

I'm a UK citizen been residing in the USA last 9 yrs. have custody of 2 USA grandchildren (10 and 11).

Mother is US citizen - Father is UK citizen (Now lives Spain).

We are relocating back to UK (Have all necessary consent from both parents agreeing to the move). and wish to apply for their dual passports. Can I do this from the US (we have 4 mths left here). If not - what is the process when we arrive back in the UK. Do we need interview - what is timescale, process Etc.

I need passports soon so we can to prove to education authority the children are entitled to education (I understand). And also of course to remain in the UK past their 6mth entitlement on a visitor reciprocal visa. All input will be gratefully received. Thank you.

There's no such thing as a dual passport that I'm aware of. You can apply for their British passports from overseas but it might take a while. There's no passport interview for children. If you can possibly do it in the UK, it takes a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your input. As for "dual passport" I may have used wrong terminology - I am looking for them to have a British passport in addition to their US passport.

If they automatically qualify because of British parent - can i apply online - and what Form would I need to submit under those circumstances if you know. Thank you so much .
