Can Tier 2 dependant work in non training doctor post

Post by bijuben » Tue May 10, 2016 8:38 am

My wife is in UK as a Tier 2 dependant. Her visa states that she cannot work as a doctor in Training. So can she get a job as a Locum or non training posts such as LAS or Staff grade?

Yes she can. Only things she cant do is foundation programme (FY1, FY2) and speciality training (ST, CT),
However, be mindful that there are trust posts which are not given NTN (national training number) and she can still do those, even though they are advertised with similar names.. like trust FY2 post, trust SHO or Trust ST1 positions.
But before she does anything she will need full gmc membership and licence to practice as a doctor.

Thanks a lot for the info "iworker". Yes, she has full GMC registration with a licence to practice as well. So I suppose she can search for the types of jobs that you have mentioned. Thanks once again.

if she has full memebership, i presume that means that she completed her foundation/housejob/training (different names in different countries, some do 1 year, others do 2 years) in her home country.

The best way forward for her to secure a job is, look for a clinial attachment straight away.. its like unpaid internship.. offered by most hospitals. at the same time, she should look for Trust FY2, ST1, CT1,(formerly known as SHO) jobs.. depending on where u live, i dont think it should take her more than couple of months to secure a job. Most trust jobs start in august and will be advertised in May/June. This is the best time for her to set up alerts on nhs jobs, bu saving her location.
I wouldnt advise doing locum right now as she doesnt have local experience.
