Using old IELTS

Post by Digit » Sun May 22, 2016 10:38 pm

Hi guys, I've read the FAQ but I am still very confused by the requirement of English test.

I got Tier-1 General visa in July 2010 using my IELTS (General training) test result as part of the application. The test centre number is CN004, which is in the latest list of Approved secure English language tests and test centres (18-May-2016) . Does this mean my test certificate will still be acceptable for my ILR application?

Cheers,
Chang

Some more details:

Test date: 23/JAN/2010
Test Centre: CN004
Test awarding body: UNIVERSITY of CAMBRIDGE ESOL Examinations

Wiki says University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations was renamed Cambridge English Language Assessment in 2013.

My wife used her old ones from 2009 and there were no problems.

Many thanks MrThingamajigs! May I ask for a bit more details please?
- When was your wife's ILR application submitted?
- What was shown on the test certificate as test authoring body? Presumably UNIVERSITY of CAMBRIDGE ESOL Examinations?
- Where was the application processed, I mean in which PEO? Or did she apply by post?

I am struggling in getting any confirmed information about the definition of "being still on the list". If that has to be literally 100% matching, anything other than the new type (so called SELT) provided by Cambridge English Language Assessment at a listed test centre will not be acceptable. I've called UKVI twice, basically they could not provide any info more than the rather vague statements I can find in the official online documents.

If your wife's case was similar as mine, that'll be extremely helpful!

Thanks again. Chang

Today I am granted ILR using my expired IELTS which was taken in 2010 and used for my original Tier-1 application. While waiting the case worker called me saying she needed to verify my test results but "nothing to worry about". I ended up waiting for additional 3 hours but hey, the outcome is not too bad!

I think the FAQ about using expired IELTS is somewhat confusing and not accurate. The conclusion is, as said on the gov site, as long as 1) you have successfully used the test results for your previous application(s), 2) the test provider (IELTS) and test centre are still on the current approved list, you CAN use it and they WILL accept it!

BTW During my research I found three successful cases.
