EEA Family Permit - Original Documents?

Post by AnnemarieFischer » Thu Jun 09, 2016 11:46 am

Do the supporting documents for the EEA Family Permit - specifically the Employment Contract, Letter from Employer, Rental Lease Agreement and Landlord Letter - need to be the original signed documents, or will it be sufficient for the documents to be signed in the UK, scanned and emailed to us and then printed out for the visa application?

We are applying from South Africa for an EEA family Permit as a spouse.

We (Australian husband, German wife - studying in Scotland) are still waiting on the outcome of our Family Permit, so I can't tell you for sure if this is the way forward.

But we have provided certified copies of:
- my passport
- my German national ID (Personalausweis)
- my European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
- my MSc degree certificate
(- my tenancy agreement)

We provided originals of:
- his passport
- our marriage certificate
- photographs of us
- postcards we sent one another
- council tax exemption forms and utility bills of my address.

We provided normal copies of:
- flight confirmations
- hotel bookings.

We did not actually submit my tenancy agreement's certified copy because I feel that the information on it is none of the HO's business - it has my landlady's private details and things, so I don't know how happy she would be.

A 'certified copy' is a copy that you have had stamped and signed by a Justice of the Peace or a solicitor, who write a little note saying that this is a true copy and they've seen the original. In my case, I am traveling for work during the application phase and I cannot hand in my original documents, so my certified copies are provided.

Now, all we do is wait and have our nerves wrecked.

PS: Yes, we know that Aussies aren't visa nationals and they don't really need a Family Permit. But his employer wants it before he starts there.

Hi,

The only original documents I provided for the EEA FP application were my passport (I'm the non-EEA national) and the marriage certificate.

Everything else was a copy, and they were not certified or notarised.

Joint documents relating to both of us:
-Marriage certificate (original)
-Council tax (copy)
-Water Bill (copy)
-Some photos

Docs relating to EEA National:
-3 months payslips (all copies)
-3 months bank statement (copies, but had it stamped by bank)
-Passport (copy of the photo page)

My application was successful on first attempt :)
