Applying to citizenship with PR card but no CSI

Post by Nutmeg » Tue Jun 14, 2016 6:46 pm

Hi all,

I am an Italian citizen who has been living in the UK for almost 6 years. I have always been a student.

My question is as follows: basically in January I successfully applied for a UK PR card, which I obtained since I met all the conditions required, including having a comprehensive sickness insurance, for which I used a European Health Insurance Card issued by Italy. Unfortunately that card expired in April. My question is: will I be able to apply for citizenship next January? I checked the application form for naturalisation and it does not mention the need for CSI, but I am not sure whether I will have to provide evidence of that.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Once you have PR status then there is no need whatsoever to exercise treaty rights.
So no need for CSI.
You are quite free to stay in bed all day and watch daytime TV if you wish.
However PR status would be lost if you left UK for 2 years.

No activity of any kind (student or economic) is a prerequisite for the privilege of citizenship.

Assuming you have met or can meet all other requirements you may apply once you have had PR status for 12 months.
(That is not necessarily the same as holding the PR card for 12 months).

That also assumes you do not have a BC spouse - if you do then no need to wait for the 12 months.
All that is gold does not glitter; Not all those who wander are lost. E&OE.
