Italian Citizenship by Marriage

Ciao All,

I've moved to Italy in Jan 2016.

Italian law states that I can apply for citizenship 3 years after getting married, if living abroad
And
After 2 years, if living in Italy.

In my case, it's 30 months in UK and 6 months in Italy and in Italy I still haven't received my Resident Card ( Carta di Soggiorno, in process still, which means, no residenza yet).

Marriage was registered in UK 30 MONTHS ago and in Italy's commune 6 months ago only.

Do I qualify for 3 years rule to apply for citizenship, I consulted withe a local lawyer but ironically he didn't had any idea about it.

Hi, did you ever get an answer to this? I guess you are now nearly at the 36 month mark anyway. The 36 months (3 years) count from when you were married regardless of when it was registered in Italy.

But i was looking for some authentic information/source, so that i would know for sure before applying.

36 months are passed few months back and i still haven't moved my a**
i've tried some italian websites but it's not much help, especially for my case there is almost no information.

I am not sure what your confusion is? It is 3 years from the date of your marriage so the date of registering it in Italy should be of no consequence. What you will need though, is the ESTRATTO PER RIASSUNTO DELL’ATTO DI MATRIMONIO from your commune.

Was there some other concern?
