Non married visa advice

Post by iknowmyabc » Fri Jun 17, 2016 10:08 am

Hello,

I am a British citizen who has been working in Japan for the last four years. I have now returned back to the UK and I am currently actively seeking work.

I have been in a relationship with my Japanese partner for three years. I understand the conditions for obtaining a non married partner visa is to have been living together for at least two years, evidence to show that we are still maintaining the relationship and for me to be earning at least 18,600 pounds a year. My partner also needs to pass an English test. Is this correct? I have the documents (in Japanese) to show that we have lived together for over two years.

My intention is to upon securing a job, apply for a non married visa.
Prior to securing a job, is there anything I need to do in-between this or to provide additional evidence that we are still maintaining our relationship? I heard that processing times can take upwards of a year. Is this correct?

Are there any additional routes other than savings I could pursue to bringing my partner to the UK? Would any complications arise from the results of the EU referendum?

Thanks.

The two years is the last two years and you'll need to have been working for at least six months before applying.

I have lived with my partner from February 2014 till May 2016 in Japan.

Assuming I find employment in July, that would mean applying in January 2017, would this put me at a major disadvantage in securing a visa for my partner?

You would meet the financial rule if you can show that as the sponsor you have been earning the equivalent of £18,600 in Japan for the 12 month period prior to submitting your partner's visa application
and
You have a confirmed job offer in the UK starting within 3 months of arrival, again with an income of £18,600 per annum.
