Registering as British citizen (overseas born to UK father)

Post by kjartanovich » Fri Jun 24, 2016 2:53 pm

Hi

I am an EU citizen wanting to apply for British citizenship, particularly given todays referendum results.

I was born in 1986 in Denmark, to my Danish mother and English father.
He was born in the UK in 1955.

At the time of my birth he was still a UK national/passport holder.
He leater gave this up to become a Danish citizen as dual nationality was not allowed.
This is why I was not able to gain dual citizenship at birth.

This law has recently been changed, which makes it possible for me to gain UK citizenship/passport.

The problem is that I can't figure out which form to use.

Both UKF and UKM seem to fall outside my situation based on the criteria described on the UK GOV website.
https://www.gov.uk/register-british-cit ... ish-father

Moreover, how long should I expect the process to take?

I hope you can help.

Kind regards,

Kjartanovich

If your father was a British citizen and married to your mother at the time of your birth, you are a British citizen by descent and do not need to register/naturalise.

Apply for passport.
