Question about citizenship application with PR card

Post by Nutmeg » Fri Jun 24, 2016 10:04 pm

Hi all,

I am an Italian citizen who moved to the UK in October 2010, since then I have always been a student. In January I obtained a PR card. The question is: when can I apply for citizenship? The rule says that I must have had permanent residence for one year before I can appy. But I do understand if this means I can apply one year after I have acquired the right of permanent residence under European rules or one year after I have obtained the PR card.

More specifically, will I be able to apply this October or next January?

Thanks all in advance!

Thanks a lot for your reply! Just to get it straight, this means that if I moved into the UK in October 2010 I can apply for naturalisation this October, even if I was only given a PR card only in January 2016?

Yes, as long as you held Comprehensive Sickness insurance (CSI) or a EHIC card during your 5 year qualifying period as a student.

Sure, but shouldn't it be already proven since I was given a PR card?
