Tier-2 extension dependent on passport validity?

Hello,

I have been on Tier-2 general here since Nov-2013 and it's up for renewal again this November for a possible 2 years so that I qualify for ILR.

My current Indian passport is valid till January 2018 - I believe the duration of Tier-2 extension isn't dependent on the validity left on the passport - as it's a biometric card?

Can someone please confirm that for me.

Your understanding is correct. Your passport should not be expired when HO makes a decision on your visa application. You can renew your passport post your visa arrives.
