Applying for Italian Dual Citizenship

Post by baxterlock » Tue Jun 28, 2016 8:06 pm

I am British and have a single Italian Grandparent, my mother has a British passport. Is it possible for me to apply for dual Italian citizenship and would it make my application easier/successful if my mother was to apply for dual citizenship first?

OK. A few questions.

Was your grandparent male or female? If female, was your Mother born after 1948?

How did your Mother get a British passport? Did she naturalise British? If so, when? And was this before you were born? If not - what age were you when she naturalised British?

Depending upon the answers then your Mother will hopefully be Italian and all she has to do is provide the evidence to be recognised. Likewise you are also already Italian and simply have to be recognised.

But beware, the costs are high. It cost us about £500 to get my son recognised. If we had simply registered his birth before he was 18 it would have been a fraction of the cost!

If all is good then I think you and your mother could apply for recognition at the same appointment.

Hope this helps!
