How long can ICT Tier 2 Dependents stay out of UK?

Hi,

My wife and child got ICT Tier 2 Long Term Dependent Visa in May 2016, visited UK and collected their BRP as well. They then went back home in June 2016 and planning to come back in December 2016.

Can they stay away from UK and come back after 7-8 months gap?
Or is there any formality that needs to be done? Looking forward for a reply.

They should be fine to stay out of the UK as long as they want.
But if their leave expires while they are out, they will need to apply for a fresh entry clearance from outside the UK. Visa extensions are applicable only in-country.
