SAR request vs British Nationality Confirmation

Post by federyko1979 » Mon Jul 11, 2016 2:52 pm

Hi

Coming back to that article in the Guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/201 ... ants-error

I'd like to know if I will send a SAR request and they will send me a photocopy of that WRS registration certificate and card would that be sufficient for Passport Office to accept it instead of the original? I mean I have the original but if it gets lost/destroyed then maybe in 50 years time my son will not be able to prove I was settled when he was born.
Or maybe just play it safe and apply for British Nationality Confirmation? You know how long they keep these confirmations? Registration and naturalisation certificates are kept very very long time (if not forever) but do these confirmations get destroyed after 15 years from last activity like all other HO documents?

Or maybe is there UKBA archives I could get the certified copy from?

What do u guys think?

I doubt HMPO will accept a photocopy of your WRS certificate.

If you look at the passport guidance, it specifically states a Nationality Status certificate is accepted for proof of British citizenship. It could also end up being helpful in the future if for whatever reason proof of nationality is needed (as a passport is not a proof of nationality).

These aren't "kept", they are only created if you request one. HO will almost certainly keep details of nationality indefinitely. Could you imagine the turmoil if they just lost the details of all their naturalised/registered citizens!

Unclear how a WRS certificate (or copy of one) proves anything apart from registration under WRS.

the registration under WRS is one of requirements to prove you legally worked (exercised EU treaty rights) in UK. Without it HO won't consider you as settled.

Did anyone actually seen how that Nationality Status confirmation certificate/letter looks like? I mean is it a proper "certificate" like the ones you get when you're naturalised or registered? Or is it a normal letter written on a toilet paper like the ones you get when you get as a confirmation of received application?
