Residence Requirement

Post by Tawa2016 » Mon Jul 11, 2016 9:29 pm

I wonder if you could please advise me. I was married to a UK citizen before coming to the UK in June 2012 with my spouse visa and has since been divorced due to domestic violence in the UK. I hold indefinite leave to remain status since May 2013 and wishes to apply for British citizenship.

I doubt if I meet the residence requirement as I can't seem to find a case similar to my situation. Please could you confirm.

Thanks

5 years of residence required. Apply under section 6(1) of BNA on form AN any time from June 2017. Ensure you were physically in the UK on the corresponding date 5 years ago when you submit your application. I've assumed you meet the permitted absences in the 5 year qualifying period. B1 level English + the Life in the UK test are required.

That means the earliest you could apply is in June 2017.

Thanks Casa for your quick reply. So, if I wait for one more year (till July 2017), I would then be eligible?

Yes I believe that I meet the other requirements, recently passed the LIUK test, passed my B1 last year but it would expire by Dec 2016 and only spent 10 days out of the country since I came to the UK.

I suppose I can apply with an expired B1 certificate?
