EC 2004/38 Type C Visa and one way Ticket

Hi All,

Hopefully fellow members might have experienced the similar issue.
I want one way ticket for my family members from Delhi to Portugal. But I have been told that they won't let
you board the flight on a one way ticket unless you have a temporary residence card or a permanent resident
of that country. That means I have to buy return ticket for 2 family members which amounts to about £ 700.

Is there any possible workaround to this? Any response would be appreciated
