Travel to India after British Passport but not surrendered

Post by Sivanesan » Thu Jul 14, 2016 11:59 am

Gents,

Please can someone point me to the right direction? I do have my British Passport (just received 100 days before), haven't surrendered my Indian passport yet.

I am planning to travel to India on Sep (in 2 months), what is the best way to travel to India?

1. Travel through Indian passport by keeping British Passport in hand?
2. Surrender the Indian passport and get the certificate and apply for a tourist visa?
3. Do I need surrender certificate to apply for tourist visa?

Many thanks. Any pointers will be deeply appreciated.

1. Travel through Indian passport by keeping British Passport in hand?
No, this will attract penalty based on your situation

2. Surrender the Indian passport and get the certificate and apply for a tourist visa?
Yes, that is the best option if your trip plan to India is urgent.

3. Do I need surrender certificate to apply for tourist visa?
Yes, Surrender certificate mandatory if you are applying Indian tourist visa for the first time (if your previous nationality is Indian)

Another option would be to go for e-visa which is easier to apply. But I don't know it mandates surrender certificate. Still, my response to your Question 1 will apply if you don't surrender Indian passport before your travel

What stops you from applying OCI? Both tourist visa and OCI fee are almost same!

Many thanks for your response alien.uk :)

I was planning to go to India within 90 days grace period (as usual it didn't work out and now I have to travel which is a shame)

Do you think my OCI process will get over by 2 months? I mean if I book an appointment for surrendering my passport this week itself?
