No. It has to be your earnings.

Is your spouse your EEA sponsor? If not, are you past UK state retirement age?
The MET is what was brought in for Self Employed EU benefit claimants, but the MET was just the beginning of what is to come. The UK benefits are changing for everyone. It will be much harder with the new one welfare payment, Universal Credit, especially for those who are self employed who want benefits. Universal Credit is for those of working age and it is replacing the income based benefits called, Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, JSA, ESA, Income Support
For the self employed, under UC, the welfare state will no longer support a failed/hobby business.
i.e. each worker UC claimant is required to earn the equivalent of 35 hours per week at the hourly national minimum wage, presently £7.20 (it rises at least one a year). 35 x 7.20 = £252 per week. For the self employed, their Universal Credit claim will be based on what they should earn, even if they earn less than this. Plus any savings and any other souce of income they have will also be used to calculate their UC claim.
