Hi Everyone,
After naturalisation, my wife is applying for her first passport and she finds a few things on the passport form confusing. I will highly appreciate if you could help.
1) Does she need to provide her grandparents’ details? The guidance asks to provide Grandparents details if both parents named in section 4 were born abroad. Her parents were born abroad and are not British Citizens. However, my wife became a British citizen through naturalisation and the grand parents have nothing to do with that. She doesn’t even know their date of births or place of births because they deceased before her birth. If you apply for passport through JCAP, they specifically say that you don’t need to fill in the grandparents details. What’s the correct approach on this if she’s just applying for passport through check & send?
2) She has one current and one previous (expired) foreign passports. Does she need to send them both and list them on the form? The guidance asks to send all un-cancelled passports and says that un-cancelled passports may include an expired passport. Considering this, she’s decided to send both and list both of them on the form. Is this correct?
3) Does HO usually contact counter-signatories and ask them to confirm in writing in a fixed time frame? Her counter-signatory is going on holidays for 4 weeks and won’t be able to check his posts. If HO contacts him, would they wait for him to reply for that long?
4) What’s the place of issue for Naturalisation Certificate? The sticky note says that you should write “Home Office London” but she’s already put the city’s name where she attended the ceremony. Does she need to discard the form and fill in a new one?
Thanks very much for your help.
