USB sticks with evidence admissible in application?

Post by Davi » Fri Aug 05, 2016 7:34 pm

My Fiancée takes lots of videos of us. We've already got a big stack of photos to go in with the application, can we also send the video's in on a USB stick? It says no DVD's or Video Cassettes, but can't find mention of USB sticks.

I believe you'll find that a USB stick won't be accepted due to the risk of a virus.

Yeah that's the first thing that came to mind here Casa, thank you. Shame I think they'd add a lot of weight!

No. With its insistence on paper evidence HO is clearly stuck in 19th century.
They clearly mean no technology.

You could always upload them somewhere and invite the caseworker to view them :D No virus issues there.

Suggest stick with tasteful selection of photos.

I doubt the caseworker has either the time or the inclination to sit (and sift) through videos. S/he probably has a pile of applications on her table and would want stuff that she can flick through quickly.

I would not disparage the insistence on paper evidence so quickly. Paper-and-pen has outlasted magnetic tapes, floppy disks (both 5.25 and 3.5), optical disks (CDs, DVDs and Bluray discs) by a few hundred years. Each one of those above have not lasted more than two decades, whereas we still have paper records a few centuries old.

You call that 3.25" a floppy disk?
This (8" CPM bootdisk) is a floppy disk!

I do get why they don't accept them, just trying to put as much into our application as proof of the relationship as possible. We've printed out a couple of years worth of emails, and had iMessages and facetime logs pulled out of idiot-phone backups (they're limited, because of the max amount of history held by the phone) but just want to make sure it's indisputable. Got a dozen reference letters as well and 150 photos all packed up!
