FLR(M) Correspondence - Solicitors' Letters

Post by Bortron » Tue Aug 09, 2016 12:53 pm

Hi, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I did a few searches and couldn't find the specific answer I was looking for.

My civil partner needs to apply for his 2.5-year extension using form FLR(M). We need to provide 6 items of correspondence to demonstrate that we've been co-habiting for the last 2.5 years. We don't have anything in our joint names, but I have 6 items in my name spread evenly over that time. However, my partner has a 1-year gap in his bank statements, as he had statement delivery turned off, and his bank (NatWest - anyone else in this situation should avoid them!) have been useless in getting proof of address to us in the form of old copies of statements. All they sent were lists of transactions that show nothing about the address at the time, and have said they can't help us.

What we do have for that period are a number of letters from a solicitor (name removed by moderator) regarding a car accident that my partner was involved in as a passenger. So, my question is: would these letters be acceptable correspondence? The list on the form doesn't say it's an exclusive list, and they make no mention of solicitors' letters.

Yes they will. The evidence doesn't have to be bills or official documents. Any correspondence with name or names + address will be accepted. If you don't have 6 examples in joint names, you will have to submit 12 in single names, from at least 3 different sources spread as evenly as possible throughout the qualifying period. A good rule of thumb would be something every 4-5 months.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.
