Comprehensive health insurance

Post by ilnika0 » Tue Aug 16, 2016 10:28 am

Hello,

I moved to the UK in 2010 from Poland when I was 13 years old, I'm currently going into my second year of university (19 years old). My only family member in the UK is my mother who is employed full time.

I am currently stuck on the 9.11 section of application, that is the comprehensive health insurance section. I phoned up the HO this morning and was told I am required to have the comprehensive health insurance as I'm of no benefit to the state.

* Does my health insurance need to cover my mother even if she is working full time?
* What kind of insurance/company would you recommend for it?

Thank you!

You should be able to find a mainstream provider of CSI.
However CSI cannot be backdated (its insurance).

Workers do not need health insurance (CSI).

Another option could be that your mother sponsors you as she is evidently a qualified person (eg a worker); you are her dependent, direct family member.

In fact you may already have acquired PR status via mom/sponsor sometime around 5 years since arriving in UK.
Perhaps in 2015.
Suggest check your and mom's timelines and activity in UK.

Just to confirm, it is possible for me to simply apply on my own as a QP by providing my exam certificates, university acceptance letter, student finance etc as well as the comprehensive health insurance (which does not cover my mother). That is, is there no need for me to include my mother in the application or is it absolutely compulsory as I was dependent on her until joining university?

It seems you are 18 or 19 years old.
You are unlikely to have spent 5 years in UK as a qualified person (ie exercising treaty rights continuously) so you are unlikely to have acquired PR yet (in your own right).

Or have you had CSI in place since 13 years old, together with some independent means of support, so that you can be classed as having been self sufficient for 5 continuous years?

Otherwise, you are more likely to have acquired PR by now via your parent/sponsor.
That is probably the way to go.

I've never been told about the need for comprehensive health insurance until a few days ago meaning I have a one year gap - a friend who is in an identical situation to mine was told to get insurance now and wait another 5 years...

In the case of my mother, I just found out she did not have a WRS in 2010-2011, however that is outside the QP. Is there any chance I might still be able to get PR if we apply together, that is the August 2011-present period?

If no alternative (such as your friend) then yes, the PR clock will stop,

Fortunately you have an alternative option.
Yes, if mom was a qualified person after May 2011 she may still acquire PR, from say 2011-2016.
And she may still sponsor you over that period too.

It is simpler if you are under 21, then there is no need to prove financial dependency; (just prove your relationship to sponsor).
If aged over 21 you would need to show financial dependency on your sponsor.
