Traveling while EEA2 application pending

Post by yhan » Wed Aug 17, 2016 4:26 pm

Hello all,
I am an American married to a German, living in London. I've been on a Tier 4 visa as a post-graduate student and my husband have been working here, and we are applying for the EEA family residence card as my course has now ended. The problem is that I need to travel in the next few months for work purposes (November and December), and I was wondering what my options were. The advice given by an immigration consultant and the number for the UK Visa office was to obtain a 6 month family permit from abroad, but I have seen cases where people have re-entered the country with a second passport and a certificate of application/additional documents, such as a marriage license, etc. I am trying to gauge whether the advice we were given was the absolute 'safest route' to avoid any unpleasantness at the border, OR if is absolutely NOT possible to re-enter without a temporary permit.

Thanks in advance!

FP is safest option.

You can see how you will be received and questioned at the border by IO in this UK Border Force guidance (including the case of entering UK without FP, RC or etc):
