Change of Surname with Non-EU Spouse Visa

Post by Hmminator » Thu Aug 18, 2016 12:21 am

Hello,

I'm a British citizen, and I married my Filipina wife two days ago. We plan to move to Spain in September (I already have a job lined up there) and so she will apply for an entry visa.

She would like to change her surname to mine, but as she will be applying for a visa very soon we think it would be better to wait until we are in Spain before she changes her name.

Is there any way that she might have a problem obtaining her visa due to her surname not matching mine? If she did change her name, would there be any problem applying for a visa since it wouldn't match her name on other documents like our marriage certificate?

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Mabuhay!

Suggest sort out passport first.
Visas, driving licence etc etc (also any eventual British passport) will then follow name in passport.

You may also wish to register the marriage at Philippine embassy.
You can change name for wife's SSS (if any) at the SSS office (for example, there is one next door to London embassy) at same time.
