Relocating from USA to UK

Post by DT62 » Sun Aug 21, 2016 11:03 pm

Rather than spending hours reading through posts looking for information, I thought I would start one that will hopefully help me sooner... I am a US citizen. I am single. I have been traveling to the UK for over 14 years & it is like home to me. I sold my home here a year ago & have been trying to find a way to get a work visa that will allow me a permanent move across the pond. I am ready to go & I have funds to sustain me, but without proper paperwork (work visa), I will be unable to get a job - which I definitely need to do! Can anyone help me? I am told there has to be a loophole somewhere. Hoping someone here can help me please.

No loopholes.

1. Marriage (life changing - 5 years to citizenship)

2. Student (freaking expensive, caps though, might need to study all the way to PhD until 10 years, 11 for citizenship)

3. Work (need to be highly skilled and better than locals/EU folks, fives/six years)

3. Entrepreneur (need £200,000)

4. Innovator/exceptional talent (Need in international recognition in some field)

5. Investor (Need £2,000,000)

6. UK Ancestry (Need a commonwealth citizenship or rights to one and gramps born in UK)

7. EU Ancestry (e.g. Irish gramps, Italian is fairly easy, others need research)

Or if you sold your house maybe a Golden Visa for Spain, means you get to live and work in Spain for five years and obtain the rights to move to UK, but then again, Brexit will have happened so that's maybe not an option.

A frustrated friend in the UK who has been trying to find a way to help a single woman move to be where she wants. It should not be this complicated!

UK immigration is not a dating agency or a tourist agency.

Member Wanderer has itemised the options clearly and concisely;
its just a case of working through them and performing some sort of cost-benefit analysis.

No need to be rude. I never said it was. I am a 54 year old woman, no criminal record, hard worker. I am trying to do things all legal & above board. I have hired lawyers, tried the Italian ancestry option & any other number of things. This same friend I mentioned made a suggestion that I try this forum to see if some one knew of anything I had not already tried. I had hoped to find some friendly assistance or ideas. I guess I was wrong to post here. Sorry to bother you.

No problem, no ones being rude, just the UK dry bordering-on-sarcastic wit. You'll need to get used it.

Here's a up-to-date link to UKVI registered Tier-2 General sponsors. Do you have any special work skills which employers may be unable to fill with applicants from within the UK/EU?

ttps://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/up ... onsors.pdf

Bear in mind that for the Tier 2 General points based work category, you won't be granted a visa without a sponsor. As you're also probably aware, it's not permitted to switch from visitor to any other visa category from within the UK.

I was setting your question into a UK migration context.

The possibilities and options are quite clear. Its just a case of working through them.
Good luck.

Thank you! Believe me, I love & understand British wit & humour. One of the many reasons I want to be there. I will look through what you posted though I may have already seen this. If it is updated, there may be something new for me. I just want to move across, get a job to support myself, buy a home, pay taxes & live. There has to be a way. Others manage it...

Wanderer has set out all your options clearly...any other way would be 'circumventing the Immigration Rules' and illegal.

Be aware that if you're taking the PBS visa route...the job offer from an approved sponsor comes first...then the move. :|

And beware of house prices here! I just bought a house (I'm 55 and it's a 15 year mortgage) two weeks before I decided to relocate to Denmark, I'm in a right tizzy over what to do....

Sadly house prices can be high everywhere! I have an area picked that I would like to live but must sort out paperwork first. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I am too determined to give up! I love the UK & want to be near my friends permanently.

Good luck with your house! I would take it from you if I could!

You might find it beneficial to check each option in Wanderer's comprehensive list to see which one/ones may apply to you.

Have already done that... I have gone through 2 immigration lawyers as well so far. The one here was completely useless & just took my money. The other couldn't find a way to make it work last year. I may contact them again to see if anything has changed.

Not much point in contacting the useless advisor again who you say just took your money, but I guess you're referring to the one who couldn't come up with anything. :|

At least if you narrow Wanderer's list down to 'possibles' you have a starting point. Only you will know which these may be.

To my knowledge the only change from 2015 is the Tier 2 General sponsors list, updated August 16 in the link you've been given.

The Tier 1 General route is now closed due to abuse of the system.
