Naturalisation & how to determine when PR was acquired

Post by avva78 » Sun Aug 21, 2016 12:25 pm

Hi all,

I would like to apply for citizenship as soon I will receive PR. I have been living here since 2006. I have send supporting documents from 2009-2016. Think I shouldn't send 2016! How I can find out if I got residency from 2009 not let's say 2010. Is the only option is to request freedom of information request??? I don't want wait a year if I don't have to. I passed Life in UK and language test already. Thank you.

Would that not impact my application negatively?
I'm afraid that if I request my passport back Home Office will withdraw my application or reply with a refusal... :/

avva78, as far as I know, as long as you provide the evidence that you have lived and worked/studied in the UK since 2006 and also send your permanent residence card, you are safe. I want to do the same thing, and a Home Office advisor confirmed for me that this is the case. So, I came to the UK in 2010 and automatically gained the permanent resident status in 2015. Technically, I have been eligible to apply for citizenship for a few months now (because 12 months since I became a permanent resident had passed), however I didn't have the residence card which is required. But, according to many advisors I checked with, I can apply for citizenship as soon as I get the permanent residence card if I wish. As long as I am able to present evidence that I've lived and worked in the UK for the past 6 years or more, Home Office should accept that. (Well, I hope so - I want to apply in January after I'm back from my holiday because I probably won't be able to travel for some 6 months after that...).

Hi Horridan6,

Thank you for replay. I will send application straight away. I'm in a good position due to having national ID card. I send my ID card instead passport fro PR. I can travel without worrying getting passport back on time. Also think will use a NCS for citizenship ( don't think is necessary) but in this case will not have to go for the interview.
Good luck and thanks again.

To avoid confusion & jumbled responses, I have moved your question to its own thread (this one) in (the most) appropriate forum (this one).
