Obtaining Portuguese citizenship as South African

Post by Chadstick » Mon Aug 22, 2016 7:34 pm

Hi. My mom is a Portuguese citizen and I want to register my birth at the embassy, so they gave me a list of documents needed. One of which is a copy of my vault birth certificate (original handwritten birth registration form copy). So I applied for one but Home Affairs told me Friday they cant locate my file, so I had to fill in new birth registration forms (basically register my birth again) and send it back to them.

The problem is will the Portuguese accept this? I mean if I hand them a newly registered birth form. Or is there any other way to prove my identity? I have an abridged birth certificate from 1988 when I was born but it doesnt have my parents details on so I doubt it will be much help. South Africa is so corrupt the Portuguese dont trust our Home Affairs and this is why we need auch hard to get documents.

Anyone else been in a similar situation or know what can be done?

They said they will still search for my file tho. Im baffled how it can just vanish.
