British citizen - EU partner - pregnancy question

Post by Nostalgia » Sun Aug 28, 2016 11:13 am

Hello there, this is my first post here and I joined specifically to ask this question so if it's not in the right section I do apologise but I'm just looking for some help.

I am a British citizen, my EU girlfriend may be pregnant, we don't know yet, but there's all the dreaded thoughts already of what happens now if so. I've been on Google trying to look into what the rights are and options for people in this scenario, but I wasn't getting any good feedback so I joined here to ask this. I am aware that people in the EU have more rights and can migrate to the UK easier then people from outside the EU, so I'm wondering what the rights are and what could happen with regards to this.

Realistically there is only a future if my girlfriend comes to live in the UK with me so I'm looking for help with regards to the rights of her if indeed she does discover she's pregnant and wants to start a family with me in the UK.

An EU citizen can come and live in UK anyway, so that's with or without you.

After 3 months in UK they need to be a qualified person.
If gf is selfsufficient with CSI in place then that counts as being a qualified person and so all good.

But with Brexit looming and PR taking 5 years, gf is unlikely to have time to acquire settled status (PR) which is a prerequisite for naturalisation for Union citizens.

Gf can up to speed with free movement, here:

Would the CSI need to cover the pregnancy? That's likely to be the major part of medical expenses in the immediate future.

There's a swifter route for those who come from Ireland.
The 'swifter route' via Ireland is by your own admission 'untested'.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

@RW, kindly refrain from plastering your untested Irish theories on every incoming post in the forum. You have your own topic.
This does nothing to assist OP.
