What evidence do you have to substantiate your French language skills?

Do you want to apply for a passport of French citizenship?
Sounds like you mean citizenship - to do this you usually submit a 'dossier' to your local prefecture, but given that you're not in France you may wish to contact the French Embassy in the UK to ask how to go about this.

The processing of citizenship applications in France usually takes quite long (1-2 years) and there will be several interviews. You need to demonstrate good French language skills, integration into French society (not sure if this also applies if your application is based on your marriage to a French national) and be married for at least 5 years. One the upside, it's cheap as chips compared to BC

As I said, best to get in touch with the French Embassy here, this forum is for British citizenship/EEA applications.

Yeah, unless you learn French there is no way to become a citizen I think.
However, I think they only require quite a low level though (B1), pretty easy and quick to learn if you take a course or teach yourself, maybe try that :)
