Wife , Newborn - Indian Visa

Post by wpongal » Sun Sep 18, 2016 8:10 pm

Dear Friends

We have the following state / clarification ...

Condition
1. Wife got naturalised on 05th August and now has a British Passport. Indian Passport is not yet surrendered.
2. Newborn is automatically British and would get the passport next week.

Situation
1. Wife and Kid need to travel India at the earliest.
2. Wife and Kid need to be in India for atleast 3 months.

The process of visa for WIFE may be either of the two options...
a. surrender indian passport (surrender certificate). Wait for surrender certificate and then apply for Normal tourist visa which may be valid for 6 months? OR

b. Travel to india on indian passport and apply OCI in India?.

In simple words - can we apply for tourist visa without having a possession certificate?

Many thanks

Short answer: no. Surrender your Indian passport first. Surrendering the passport is relatively simple and you'll get the surrender certificate in a week.

Also during visa applications, if your place of birth is in India, they do expect a surrender certificate for naturalised citizens of other countries.
