I'm currently in the UK on a 2yr spouse visa which is due to expire 1 May 2008 and then I will need to apply for ILR.

I had a look at the form, which seems to be SET[M]. There doesn't seem to be a box for native English speakers? Seriously, as a citizen of a Commonwealth country who doesn't speak any other language, do I still have to do a Life in the UK test to prove I can speak English??

It seems I do . How long before I submit SET[M] do I have to do the Life in the UK test? Does it have an expiry date?
If I go on to apply for British Citizenship do I have to do the test again or is the same one valid?

Thanks for any help or advice.

You may apply for SET(M) before your spouse visa expires, but no sooner than 28 days (4 weeks) prior to the 2nd anniversary of your initial entry into the UK on your spouse visa.

You have to meet the Knowledge of language and life in the United Kingdom requirements, unless you are exempt. A pass will remain valid indefinitely and may also be used for the citizenship application.
