Hi,
I was hoping for some advice as am pretty confused. Im sure some of the questions I have could be answered in separate topics but was hoping someone knowledgable could advise in this thread. Thank you in advance.
Background
I was previously in UK for 4 years on a student visa. (Aug 2008 to July 2012)
I'm currently on a tier 2 general visa which i have had for 4 years. (Aug 2012 to date). This expires in 2018.
I married a British citizen in August 2014 and have been married for 2 years now. I did not switch to a spouse visa as was advised informally that my residency 'clock' would reset.
Despite not having any long absences from the country, i dont think i am eligible right away for ILR. If i am wrong, please let me know.
My understanding is that i should complete the 5th year on my tier 2 (July/Aug 2017) so i can apply for ILR and then immediately apply for naturalisation as the spouse of british citizen.
Other info
I did have a slight bump when due to an administrative error by HR at the company i work (sponsor) my visa elapsed but we renewed within 28 days (actually by the 4th day). I was assured that this did not cause any break in my long residency.
Please consider my circumstances and advice quickest route to ILR and subsequently citizenship.
If any further information required please let me know, thank you.
