Hi All,
I intend to document this OCI procedure for future purpose (to apply for my family members or friends or for anyone over here ).My intention is to put all information in one place as all the information is scattered under different tabs based on the type of OCI application which can be time consuming.
Also at the start of filling online application there are certain doc formats which you have to be ready with which makes the application to fill in a simpler manner otherwise you will have to save and exit and come back many a times to complete the application.…. So here is the procedure as per my experience which I have recently applied in October 2016.
This procedure is primarily for someone applying for OCI for an adult based on holding an Indian passport in the past. Applicants who are applying on the basis of marriage & Applicants who are applying OCI for their kids need few more documents than the below mentioned ones.
Sec (A). Documents to carry on the day of appointment
1) Application form .. This can be generated by filling in the below link under New OCI registration. ( I have a written the information and documents you need in order to fill the online application in section (B) )
http://passport.gov.in/oci/welcome
2) Printed & signed copy of the declaration form (http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/uk/pdf/D ... 240815.pdf )
3) 2 photographs of the applicant. One should be affixed on the application by you and another take it to the appointment. The case worker will affix it where needed. The photograph should be in colour and of the size of 2 inch x 2 inch
(51 mm x 51 mm). http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/uk/OCI.html
I prefer photos from Jessops compared to the photo booth. There is a photo booth at the Goswell road VFS centre where I have attended. Case worker will be kind enough to allow you to take a new one if need be which I saw with another applicant.. but don’t get into this situation. Be well prepared.
4) British Passport ( Original)
5) Copy of Naturalization Certificate ( Original)
6) Surrender certificate of the passport (Original) .. If you show surrender certificate as proof you don’t have to show any other Indian documents proof. Refer to the link below at the end of this section. if you have lost your surrender certificate. You can provide other docs instead of surrender certificate.
7) 2 return envelopes to send the original documents/stamped passport and OCI card per application safely, once processed, at the time of submission.
( Costs £14.99 at the post office.)
*********** Take a photo copy of British passport, Naturalization certificate and Surrender certificate for the appointment. **********
You can find all the above information here.

Sec (B). Documents you need to have as a scanned copy while you fill the application online….
1) Before filling the application online keep these photos ready i.e. Scanned Applicant photo and Scanned signature photo.. When you are scanning the photos you will have an option to choose the pixels.. Choose 200 or may be more.. The pixels can be anywhere from 200 to 900 .. it can be in a combination of 200 * 400 , 201 * 899 etc.. it doesn’t have to be exactly what they mentioned below like 200 * 200 or 900 * 900 .. it should be with in the limits of 200 to 900.. I struggled at least for half an hour thinking it should be exactly that and I couldn’t do it... the system doesn’t allow you to upload the photo it is less than 200 or more than 900.
2) Along with the photos while you fill the application keep the following scanned copies certificate of Naturalization, British passport copy & Surrender certificate copy in a PDF format only.
3) If you are applying on basis of marriage remember the date of registration of your marriage and keep a copy of marriage certificate in pdf format too.
