Returned documents- Naturalization

Post by NordicChink » Fri Nov 04, 2016 2:36 pm

Hi All

I have submitted my application at the end of August.
Today I have received a letter with a couple of my original documents, acknowledging the information I have provided and that the decision will be based on that, and that they may ask for the documents to be sent back etc etc.

They did not indicate how long their consideration process will be going on for. I understand that there is a 6 month waiting time in general, but I am wondering if anyone else has received such letter and how long after they got their BC certificate?
Just being impatient.

Many thanks!

If you have applied for naturalisation as an adult, they won't just send you the certificate. If your application is successful you will be invited to book a citizenship ceremony, which you must attend. You receive the certificate at the ceremony.

Did you ask for your documents to be returned early when you submitted the application?

As you have stated the Home Office target for processing these is 6 months. Some are much faster, some are much slower.

Thanks for your reply. I was of course aware of the ceremony, but they will have to send a letter beforehand anyway to let me know about the result.
I did the application through NCS so not sure why but they must have missed a P60 document when they photocopied everything. So just that one document was original but I did not ask for it back.

I am hust trying to estimate how long it may take to approve.

An impossible task I'm afraid. If you have a questionable past, expect it to take significantly longer than normal though.

I found the best thing to do while my application was under consideration was just not think about it. For the first few weeks after giving biometrics I was pinned to the letter box waiting for the post every day waiting.

Eventually I just stopped thinking about it. One day the post came and my lodger picked it up and came into the front room, she said there's one here for you. I jokingly asked if it was an A5 brown envelope (this is what the approval letter comes in from the Home Office). She said no it's white and handed it to me. Low and behold I opened it and it was a letter from the council telling me they had been informed by the Home Office that the application had been approved. The following day, the brown envelope came :D
