Spouse extension uk visa

Government has just issue the statement that for spouse extension visa level A1 test is valid until May 2017.i just called the UK immigration and they told me I can resubmit my Cambridge ESOL LEVEL A2 certificate 2013 which I submitted to get my Uk entry visa.

But the British council is saying to me all the certificates is valid for 2 years and need to sit again for English language test. And now I am confuse.....

Never trust the advice given over the UKVI 'helpline'. :!:

A2 level English will be required for a FLR(M) extension from May 01 2017, from an approved test provider. ESOL is no longer on the UKVI approved list.
