British Citizen Dependant

Post by sivag » Wed Nov 16, 2016 1:01 pm

Hi Friends,

Very pleased to share that I'm granted with British citizenship with help of all valuable guidelines from Gurus/Senior and board forum. My mother is in India and father passed away, after her work retirement she is staying alone with less support from my other family members. I am trying to find any UK Visa route I can get visa for her to stay in UK at least/minimum for an year or long term? I've gone thru the forum posts and home office site, it seems to be even if I process 2 Years/3 Years/ 5 Years family visitor visa, she is allowed to stay maximum 6 months only in every single visit/trip. 'Surender Singh' route looks like I have to live some other EU country - I don't understand this clearly as it looks bit complicated. Anyone can pls suggest, Is there any visa type like family dependent or UK citizen dependant. It strange that dependent status only applicable to Spouse/Child not parents?

Thanks in advance.

- Siva.

Visitor visas are for visitors. Staying in the UK for a year at a time is clearly not visiting.

Unfortunately you have next to no chance of bringing your mother here on a permanent basis. See this article: https://www.freemovement.org.uk/out-with-the-old/

The number of adult dependent relative visas that have been granted in recent years is barely in double figures.

The route to settlement for adult dependent relatives has been virtually closed since changes were made to the Immigration Rules in July 2012.

Unless your mother needs daily care for simple tasks such as bathing, dressing and preparing food, the application stands no chance of being approved. Also, even if the care is needed, you need to prove that it is unavailable in her home country, or is unaffordable (for you).

If an application is submitted and is refused, this will close the door for all future visitor visas due to the prior intention to settle.

This article by Freemovement explains the situation clearly:
