Looking for ways to be with my boyfriend in the UK

Post by RachelMM » Mon Nov 21, 2016 12:19 am

Hi there,

My long distance boyfriend and I have been dating and visiting each other for 2 years, and have been friends for a bit longer. We are now at the point where we would love to be together. I have been looking at various posts/forums/gov sites and am very confused as of how to make this happen. Any suggestions? Is it possible?

[*]He doesn't meet the 18,600 income requirement for ILR. Nor does he or myself have 62k pounds in savings like it said was an alternative somewhere (though maybe this is off?)... I did see that there are many different kinds of visas out there though so maybe there is another way.

[*]He does own a two bedroom apartment but it is currently in his family's name but it can be put in his name. Not easily because his brother owns the attached flat and the whole thing is in his parents name. So the dwelling would some how have to be separated for him to own part of it. Its valued at around 80/90k pounds as a whole. We would live there. Can he some how use the property value towards our application?

[*]He has an hourly job and has been working there for a year. He currently makes around 13k pounds per year.

About me
[*]23F. Only a High School graduate working retail making 20k usd per year. I have 7k in savings. I have no criminal convictions. I would prefer to work while I am there (I saw some Visas say you can't work).

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. In the mean time I will keep up my research. :D

Welcome.

Who is British (if anyone) you or bf?

There is no bf/gf route.

So its family (marriage) if requirements can be met;
Or work visa: Tier 2
or study visa: Tier 4.

In addition to noajthan's advice, the value of the property cannot be counted towards meeting the minimum income level.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Thanks for the other options, and that's too bad his property can't be counted.

And fair to say Study Visa Tier 4 is freakishly expensive, five figures easily, and for Work Visa Tier 2 you will need a denect degree and a highly desirable hard-to-find skill.
