Sponsor to become citizen - impact on spouse

Post by Zed701 » Wed Jan 04, 2017 12:22 pm

Hi,

I am currently on ILR but due to become eligible to apply for naturalisation next month. My spouse has just arrived in to the UK on a spouse visa which is currently valid for another 2.5 years. Just would like to know what will happen to my spouse's visa status if I become a British citizen in the next few months? Is there any impact at all on my spouse's visa or they will just continue with the 5 year route to get ILR?

Thanks

There is no difference between the visa issued to the spouse of a person holding ILR and a person who is a British citizen. If your spouse was granted the visa after you got ILR, s/he can continue on it until they acquire ILR in the usual way (five years time).
