ILR (Previous IELTS used for entry clearance NOT acceptable?

Post by plabo » Sun Jan 08, 2017 2:40 pm

Hi

I came to the UK on a Tier 2 general visa and had to show my Academic IELTS module for visa requirements then.

The following link mentions:

https://www.gov.uk/english-language/app ... ifications

Applying to settle in the UK

You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if both of the following are true:

1. It’s on the current list of recognised tests

2. It was accepted for another UK immigration application, eg when you got permission to enter

I am applying for ILR next month.

If I click on the 'current list of recognised tests' on the following link:

Table 1:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... entres.pdf

It DOES not mention IELTS Academic. I know previously it has been used in 2011 for entry clearance and could have been used for ILR as well based on the above statement but now this document dated 1st Dec 2016 is NOT showing ILETS Academic as an acceptable exam. Let me please clear this that all my colleagues on Tier 2 recently have shown their expired IELTS Academic and got ILR b/c they have shown this at the time of entry clearance.

My question now is:

Has the Home Office taken away the IELTS Academic completely and accepting ONLY IELTS Life Skills?

If that is the case, then I better apply for IELTS Life Skills B1 as don't want to take a risk on a Premium appointment day and make a mess of my ILR application.

Anyone who knows more on this, please let me know.

Hey there

I afraid I do not have more information than you, but based on what appears on the website and the list of currently approved tests - it does look like we need to take another test now...

I am in the same boat - I used IELTS General for the Tier 2 general visa 5 years ago, and now as I prepare documents for the ILR, I came across the same issue...
And yes, my friends also applied few months ago and got ILR using old IELTS results, but it seems it was before the new table was published in Dec 2016...
